1999 Menghai Tea Factory '7542' (青饼) - Yellow Ribbon
1999 Menghai Tea Factory '7542' (青饼) - Yellow Ribbon
Woody and camphor notes. Light astringency will dissipate as it continues to age. Comfortably strong qi.
In the footsteps of the 1960s Green Mark Puer, the 7542 is highly sought as a more accessible, well-aged heir. This is the yellow ribbon vintage (黄丝带) so there is no inside small paper (内飞) with the ‘8 middle teas’ (八中茶), but from the picture of the top of the bing you will see the indentation where the ribbon once lay. The outside paper stamp, leaves, and most importantly taste (saliva inducing, qi level, cool notes at the end etc.) indicate this is a real deal 7542.
There is precedent for using ribbons in lieu of and in addition to inside paper since the 1970s. In the mid-70s Menghai Factory produced a Red Ribbon Qizi Qing Bing (七子红带青饼). More recently, in 1998 Menghai Factory produced the Red Middle Red Ribbon Qing Bing (红中红带青饼), which was reprised in 2002, and in 2000 Menghai Factory released the Thousand Blessing Red Middle Red Ribbon Qizi Qing Bing (千礼红中红带七子饼).
